By MICHAEL POULIOTAs the construction of the Bayfront development in Miami continues, developer Frank Gehry has begun the process of identifying the site of a proposed $1.9 billion condo and hotel development.
The site is in the midst of a public-private partnership with the Miami-Dade County Government and Miami-based architecture firm Herzog & de Meuron that includes the possibility of the development moving forward, according to the developers.
The project would be Miami’s second major condo and office development of this type, after the $1 billion, 20-story hotel-condo project at The Plaza Miami.
The developers are aiming for a construction site of 1,200 to 1,300 units, with another 200 to 250 apartments.
The site will be developed at a site that includes a parking garage, an amphitheater, an outdoor pool, a rooftop garden and a plaza with a cafe.
The development would be the first in a new cluster of high-end condominium towers and office buildings on the Miami Beach peninsula, as well as the third in the region since 2010.
